Warren County Government is considering the purchase of radio equipment totaling $477,178.
“They [Communications International] were the low bidder, and we awarded them the bid,” said County Executive Terry Bell. “When they called and talked to them, they have got a new radio out that is actually qualified to have dual band put in it, which is a more expensive radio. They are willing to let us have them at the same cost. We asked Robert to look at TCA code to see if we can do that. It is the low bidder, but we are getting a better radio.”
Commissioner Cole Taylor, “So, better radio, same money?”
“Yes,” stated Bell.
The information was provided during a joint meeting of the county’s Financial Management Committee and Budget and Finance Committee.
In its bid application, Communications International offered 131 Tait TP9600 Portable Radios for $340,374.68; 40 Tait TM9400 Mobile Radios for $99,555.60; and one Programming, Profile and Mobile Installation Services for $37,248.20: a total cost of $477,178.48.
The upgrade in communication will be for the Warren County Emergency Management Agency to be used for Volunteer Fire and Emergency Services.
Committee members approved the purchase, which will be presented to the full Warren County Commission for its consideration.
